Many people I’ve talked to, women in particular, have a hard time setting a goal weight for themselves. Either they have never seen their adult body at a healthy weight or it has been several decades and several pregnancies since they have and they don’t have a realistic idea of what they should weight.
Most people turn to their doctors for weight loss advice who are still using the old BMI charts that are not only outdated, but aren’t very accurate.
Dr. Steven Halls created a new way to find your ideal body weight. He simply asked people how much they would like to weight at the moment. From this data, he devised the “People’s Choice” Ideal Weight Formula. Just type your height, weight and age in the calculator and it will not only tell you the medical recommendation, but also the average size people just like you would want to weigh.
I've broken my weight loss goal into 10 pound increments with an ideal goal weight that is much higher than the medical recommendation. I have been overweight since childhood and have had two children, so it is unlikely I will ever see 107, much less 141. My goal is very close to the people’s choice ideal weight, which makes me feel more comfortable with my decision.
While your ideal weight is ultimately going to be a place where you feel comfortable in your own skin and are free of health risks associated with obesity, be sure to set realistic goals.
