Studies are always being done on the use of good carbs, bad carbs, or no carbs while dieting and their effect of lock of on weight loss. The results are often conflicting and this is evident by browsing the weight loss books in your local bookstore. You’ll see books to argue why you should omit carbs from your diet to lose weight, why carbs are important for brain function and how your body needs them whether you are dieting or not and why some carbs are considered good carbs and are recommended while dieting.
Deciding which advice to take about carbs and weight loss can be difficult. The arguments for good carbs, bad carbs or no carbs can be quite convincing.
If you change your mindset, however, and look at your weigh loss as a lifestyle change rather than a temporary diet, you will realize the importance of moderation. You can eat good and bad carbs in moderation. A cookie isn’t going to ruin your diet and more than a slice of double fiber whole wheat bread will. The key is to keep your calories under control by eating small portions of the foods you enjoy.
The other thing to remember is to develop a healthy relationship with food you need to stop labeling foods as good or bad, including carbs. The carbs aren’t bad for your diet; it is the behavior that needs to be changed. Binging on a whole bag of cookies can ruin your diet and that is what gives carbs a bad name.
