When you have searched the available weight loss support groups in your area and you come up empty handed or can't find a group that suits your needs, it's time to consider starting a group of your own.
This doesn't need to be a complicated or overwhelming process. Follow these simple steps to create a successful group to help you through your weight loss journey.
· Start by assessing your personal weight loss support needs.
· Decide what will help you reach your personal weight loss goals. Put those ideas into a few sentences that describe what your group will be based on.
· Find a place to meet regularly. You could use a clubhouse, the mall or someone's home.
· Decide what time and day would work beat for regular meetings. How often will you meet and what time of day? Do you want to attract stay-at-home moms, teenagers or working parents?
· Create a simple flier to describe your group and when it will meet.
· Advertise your weight loss group within your immediate community, through your library, through community bulletin boards and use online advertisements.
· Hold meetings regularly.
· Exchange contact information with all members.
· Be attentive to each person in the support group.
· Provide activities that the group is interested such as walks, group exercise, group and individual challenges, virtual tours based on exercise, recipe exchanges and reward systems.
· Update the support group structure as necessary to keep members interested and active.
