How setting and reaching your fitness goals can push you to continue challenging yourself.

As a former TV junkie, I set high goals for myself. Reachign each goal gives me a great thrill. Another item I can check off the list. Something that seemed unattaineable at first and now I've shown that I can do it.

One of the goals I set for myself was to complete a 10K walk. This past April I was able to realize that dream. I walked in a noncompetitive walk for charity.

Set it a scenic Metropark, it was a beautiful place to walk and we were able to observe nature along the way (we even were able to get within a few feet of a goose and her eggs huddled in a nest alongside the lake.)

Since it was my first time out, I didn't treat it like a race. I walked at a pace that was comfortable for me, and to be honest, there were moments when I was dragging a bit. So the walk took me about 3 hours to complete. The great thing about a sponsored event like this is you get treated well. There were stops along the way for refreshments, freebies and even ice cream.

I finished the walk (and I wasn't even the last one to cross the finish line.) Though I was sore for a few days after the walk, it was a great feeling to add the 10K to my list of fitness accomplishments.

My next goal is to try Volkswalking for a social way to to travewl and get fit. these clubs sponsor 10K walking events that are perfect for getting me out of my workout ruts and help me push past the platteaus.
