There is only one way to lose weight and keep it off. Creating a healthy lifestyle is not just a quick way to lose weight. Instead, it is a lifestyle.

The weight loss industry is a multi-million dollar industry, and so many people have spent time and money on fad diet, diet pills, and fat cures. As of now, there is no cure for body fat, and there is no miraculous way to lose weight. Weight loss occurs when we consume fewer calories than we expend. There are small changes that we can make in our everyday lifestyles that will promote weight loss and create a healthier lifestyle.

Cutting Sugar

Most Americans are addicted to sugar, and sugar is full of calories. The first step in losing weight is to cut out sugary drinks like sodas, pops, and fruit-flavored drinks. Water is a miraculous tool in weight loss. Not only is it calorie free, but our bodies are mostly made up of water, and so we need water to live.

Healthy Food Changes

The next best way to lose weight is to incorporate healthy choices in our diet. Eliminating fried foods is the first step in that process. Committing to eating baked or grilled lean meat is another guaranteed way to eliminate calories. Also, as a general rule, we should eat fruit at least twice a day. Plus, we should incorporate a green vegetable into every meal. To make meals even healthier, we should only eat whole wheat bread and/or pasta. These simple changes will cut back on many calories, which will promote weight loss.

Cheat Day

These changes should be a lifestyle change, but it’s natural for people to get cravings or urges for sweets, fried foods, or other foods that are not exceptionally healthy. Because this should be a lifestyle change, it’s important to not get frustrated, to get burnt out, and then eventually quit. One way to prevent this is by allowing ourselves a cheat day. Doing this allows us something to look forward to, and it also will give us motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle all other days of the week.

Exercise

Because America is so fast paced and Americans are extremely busy, it’s often difficult to find time to exercise each day. However, we should start off setting aside 20 minutes per day (5 days per week) devoted to exercise. We can also make small changes that will help us to burn more calories. Taking the stairs burns many more calories than riding the elevator. We can commit to parking far away from the door at the grocery store, burning extra calories on the walk to the door. We can run in place during the commercials of our favorite TV shows.

Making these changes may be difficult at first. However, getting into a habit is important because we will get used to the changes and accept them as part of our everyday lifestyle. We all are going to make mistakes from time to time, but creating a routine of healthy choices will ensure that we’ll go back to that healthy lifestyle, maintaining any initial weight loss.
