Lemons have many good qualities. They can assist in weight loss, and improve general health.

Lemons are a highly concentrated source of vitamin c. The recommended daily average dosage of vitamin c for an adult is 60mg, which can be obtained from the juice of only two and a half to three lemons.

How Lemon Juice Can Help People Lose Weight

Lemon juice helps digestion, making sure that the liver rids itself of any impurities, which is essential to losing weight and keeping off excess weight.

To be able to lose weight in a healthy way, people need a combination of good, nutritious food and drink, as well as regular exercise. Even a small amount of exercise is better than none at all.

Do not be lured by diet pills or crash diets. Normally people who are lured by these weight loss methods only end up putting the weight back on shortly after losing it. People who consume a high dosage of vitamin c are more likely to lose weight, as lemon juice can speed up the metabolism.

Research has shown that people who include a large amount of citrus fruit in their diet are less likely to suffer from obesity, as they generally are less hungry, therefore consume less food. The citric acid in lemons helps to stimulate gastric juices and saliva, helping the digestive process. Due to its acidity, even a very small amount of lemon juice can aid natural digestion.

As well as this, lemons control fat metabolism, purify the blood, help liver function, decrease the chances of acne, prevent constipation, and even help PMS too.

Other Ways That Lemon Juice Can Help

  • Calcium absorption - Lemon juice helps the body to absorb calcium. This assists in preventing osteoporosis and also helps the body to break down fat.
  • Antioxidants - Lemon juice contains antioxidants. These help to boost the immune system and have antiviral and antiallergenic qualities.
  • The antioxidants in lemons also help to stabilise blood sugar levels, which in turn reduces hunger.
  • Anticancer properties - Lemon peel contains essential oils, these give lemons their typical ‘lemony smell’, and contain d-limonene which protects the body against cancers.

There are many different ways to integrate lemons into a normal daily diet. One of the simplest ways is to squeeze a lemon, dilute it with either hot or cold water, and drink it regularly.

Another way is to add lemons to food. A salad or piece of fish tastes extra special when fresh lemon is squeezed over it. Plus there are a multitude of recipes which use lemon as one of the ingredients.
