Using natural appetite suppressants can be very beneficial when trying to lose weight permanently.

Weight loss would be a simple venture if only appetite weren’t a problem. Getting control of the appetite is a key in real weight loss. If the amount of food eaten is controlled, steady weight loss is sure to follow.

So, exactly how is an appetite dealt with? Instead of giving into its demands, it must be properly trained. If these demands are ignored, they’ll only get louder and lead to a binge. A better route would be to satisfy it. However, instead of delving into sugary, white, or fat-laden foods, tame it with healthy and intelligent options.

Fill up with Fiber and Water

According to the National Academy of Sciences, fiber intake is between 25-38 grams a day. Most Americans’ diets lack sufficient fiber. If meals are consumed every 2-4 hours like many fat loss experts advise,i f hunger calls between meals, it is a great mental consolation to know that the hunger must only be quenched for a short period of time. Fiber is a healthy and low calorie method of doing this. Try the following ideas to bulk up while trying to slim down:

  • Snack on pickles. They are a crunchy, salty, nearly calorie free food.
  • Eat a few stalks of celery. Consisting of mostly water, it’ll help satisfy. Add mustard, hot sauce, or peanut butter for variety.
  • Lime and lemon water are great to please the taste buds, while filling the stomach with liquid, creating satiety. Add a few drops of lemon or lime to water and add a couple of drops of stevia for sweetness.
  • Fill up on chunky vegetables. Add handful of veggies with high water content to every meal to help stay full longer. Onions, mushrooms, and salad greens are good choices.

Distraction

Sometimes, particularly when the food craving is mental or emotional, a distraction is the best approach. Appetites can act like children, and get grouchy if they don’t get their way. And like children, helping channel the attention on something else, helps the issue subside. Try these distraction techniques the next time a food craving comes on:

  • Run a short distance, like up the stairs or to the mailbox. Cardio bursts distract the hunger signals.
  • Read a motivational article or book. How about skimming over a favorite fitness magazine?
  • Brush your teeth. It’ll signal that eating time is over. Also, no food tastes very appetizing with toothpaste after flavor.
  • Work on a favorite hobby. If in a state of flow, which is often induced by involvement in a favorite activity, hunger falls by the wayside.
  • Perform a random act of kindness. Helping others gets the focus off yourself, and therefore off the hunger.

Weight loss is the natural outcome of general appetite suppression. Incorporating more fiber and liquids into a diet, along with using various distraction techniques can speed along fat loss efforts. Trying these weight loss techniques can help boost confidence, as well.
