Take control over your weight by mapping out your success. Having a plan in place takes the guess work out of dieting.

Part of the struggle people experience when they set out to lose weight is they are entering into unknown territory. That’s a scary feeling and often leads dieters right back to their comfort zone. Breaking out of that comfort zone is exactly what needs to happen to create positive change though.

Create a map for your diet success. Eliminate the fear of the unknown by devising a weight loss plan for yourself. Take control over your actions and choices by having a firm plan in place that you can turn to. Replace old behaviors that contributed to weight gain with healthier ones that allow weight loss.

  • Take control over your environment. Get rid of extra food, leftovers and candy. Set up a clean environment to keep from getting off track even in your weakest moments.
  • Keep track of your caloric intake. Seeing the enormous amount of calories you consume on a bad day can be a real learning experience. Alternately, you’ll see the days when you haven’t eaten enough to keep your metabolism burning.
  • Know your weaknesses and prepare for them.
  • Create patterns and schedules that support your weight loss goals.
  • Find mental focus. Believe in yourself, visualize yourself at a smaller size and educate yourself on healthy weight loss practices.
  • Prepare easy meals and snacks. Have them ready to grab in a pinch. Don’t allow yourself to get overly hungry.
  • Decide how you will eat on vacation without reverting back to old behaviors.
  • Plan how you will handle late nights at the office without hitting the venting machine.
  • Think about how to deal with tough family situations without turning to food for comfort.
  • Create a list of alternative activities you can enjoy to reduce stress and take your mind off of food.
  • Visit restaurant websites before you go out to eat and decide what the healthiest options are. Know what to order before you even enter a restaurant to avoid looking at the menu, smelling familiar foods and being tempted into ordering something that doesn’t fit your weight loss goals.

Dieters can’t afford to leave anything up to chance. Map out your diet success by having a plan in place for situations you commonly encounter. You can’t eat foods that aren’t there. It helps to have a backup plan. Plan ahead and map everything out on paper so you know exactly where you are headed. Keep healthy food options on hand at all times and revisit your weight loss plan often to reread and update it.
