When a person drinks enough water every day, normal bowel function returns. The easier it is to get rid of the body's waste, the easier it is to lose excess weight. An Overweight Person Needs to Drink More Water than a Thin PersonA larger person has a larger metabolic load than that of a thin person. Because water is the key to fat metabolism, an overweight person needs to drink more water in order to metabolize those extra fat deposits. On average, a person should drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day. However, an overweight person needs one additional eight-ounce glass of water for every twenty-five pounds of excess weight. For example, a woman weighs 160 pounds, and her goal-weight is 110 pounds, for a total weight-loss goal of fifty pounds. Because she needs to drink one extra eight-ounce glass of water for every twenty-five pounds of excess weight, she needs to drink two extra eight-ounce glasses (sixteen ounces total) of water each day. That extra sixteen ounces added to her minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses (sixty-four ounces) of water per day equals eighty ounces of water. That means for this woman to best help herself lose weight, she needs to drink eighty ounces of water every day. Lemon is a Natural DiureticFor that person who dislikes the taste of plain water, try adding a splash or two of lemon to the glass. This lemon not only tastes great, but it also acts as a natural diuretic. It will better help flush the body of waste and fat. Be Consistent with Water IntakeIf a person begins a regimen of drinking eighty ounces of water each day and then suddenly stops taking in that same amount, that person's body fluids will be thrown out of balance again. As a result, he or she may experience water retention and weight gain. This will also mean that person will have to force another breakthrough with his or her water intake, which can be difficult to do. So remember to be consistent and keep drinking water.
