Cutting back on gym fees does not have to mean cutting back on weight loss efforts. Losing weight at home can be easy and an inexpensive alternative to pricey clubs.

Need or want to lose weight but don't want to spending hundreds of dollars by joining an expensive gym or fitness club? Many people are looking for a free weight loss program to help get them on the right track. Here is how one can lose weight without joining a gym or a club and discover how easy it is to burn fat and lose weight at home.

Weight Loss DVD Programs

These type of fitness videos can usually be found for around ten dollars or less if purchased second hand. Start a small collection and build up slowly. Use the DVDs in a living room at home 3-5 days a week to develop sleeker muscles and trim inches. The instructor on the DVD is useful in helping correct common mistakes on various exercises, and will provide motivation and encouragement to keep on going. It's like having one's very own personal trainer in the living room, but at a fraction of the cost. If money is very tight, consider renting fitness videos at the library for free.

Neighborhood Walk/run Routes

With a safe enough neighborhood to run in, start a route at or near home and then run or walk around the block to jump start weight loss plans. It's completely free and usually more effective than a treadmill, since walking and running outside require you to propel your body forward and use various inclines. Those who live in unsafe walking neighborhoods can research other areas in the city that are safe. Plan to drive there and walk or run on the sidewalks after parking the car on a side street. Another option to consider is finding an outdoor track that is open to the public or hiking trails in a nearby park. During cold weather, drive to an indoor mall and walk up and down the long corridors there.

Create a "mini" home gym

A DVD collection of fitness videos is a good place to start. Some sort of mat, a set of dumb-bells and an exercise ball are also desirable. Some people may want to consider eventually purchasing some more expensive and/or technical equipment, but it is not necessary.

Additional Options

Look at garage sales and second hand shops for used fitness equipment to build your home gym for less. Join a neighborhood walk or run group to get support and motivation. Remember to combine a diet program with regular exercise for the fastest results. By stocking up on fitness DVDs, walking and jogging in a nearby neighborhood and using a simple set of dumb-bells can help one lose weight without joining a gym.
