The diet that is getting results for the contestants on Celebrity Fit Club is called the Fat Smash Diet, a weight loss book written by Ian Smith M.D. The Fat Smash Diet is a 90-day program that is broken down into 4 distinct stages.
The first stage is the detox phase. This is a 9-day period where you'll rid your body of harmful toxins from processed foods and environmental factors, making it easier to lose weight. While in this phase, the basic foods you'll be consuming are fruits and vegetables. You can also eat things like oatmeal, egg whites and beans in limited portions.
The second stage is the foundation phase. This is a three-week period when you'll build upon the fruits and veggies stage by adding lean meats to your meals.
The third stage is the construction phase. This is a 4-week period where you will be eating fruits, veggies, lean meats and adding whole grains like brown rice, whole-wheat spaghetti and whole grain breads and cereals. Here you can start to enjoy some sweets, but in limited portions and in addition to the fruits and veggies, not instead of them.
The final stage is the temple phase. This is a lifelong phase where you'll be able to eat all of the foods from the previous stages and gradually add limited amounts of white starches like potatoes and white rice. You'll also be able to enjoy a few glasses of wine or beers per week.
The interesting thing about the Fat Smash Diet is that it allows you to plan for mistakes. None of us are perfect, so how can we expect ourselves to follow a diet plan perfectly every day for the rest of our lives? We can't. But if you fail to plan for slip-ups, you are likely to beat yourself up and get off track for longer periods of time and continue on a path of yo-yo dieting.
Dr. Smith says that minor mistakes can be fixed by going back to phase one for about a week and then returning to the stage where you left off. Allowing for compromise sets you up for success.
Exercise is the other key to losing weight fast and keeping it off for good. Find one or more activities that suit your personality or interests and stick with it. Burning calories makes you feel great and work hand-in-hand with proper nutrition to create painless weight loss without a magic pill.
