The difference that allowing mistakes in your diet can make for longterm success, as described in Dr. Ian Smith's book, The Fat Smash Diet.

The diet that is getting results for the contestants on Celebrity Fit Club is called the Fat Smash Diet, a weight loss book written by Ian Smith M.D. The Fat Smash Diet is a 90-day program that is broken down into 4 distinct stages.

The first stage is the detox phase. This is a 9-day period where you'll rid your body of harmful toxins from processed foods and environmental factors, making it easier to lose weight. While in this phase, the basic foods you'll be consuming are fruits and vegetables. You can also eat things like oatmeal, egg whites and beans in limited portions.

The second stage is the foundation phase. This is a three-week period when you'll build upon the fruits and veggies stage by adding lean meats to your meals.

The third stage is the construction phase. This is a 4-week period where you will be eating fruits, veggies, lean meats and adding whole grains like brown rice, whole-wheat spaghetti and whole grain breads and cereals. Here you can start to enjoy some sweets, but in limited portions and in addition to the fruits and veggies, not instead of them.

The final stage is the temple phase. This is a lifelong phase where you'll be able to eat all of the foods from the previous stages and gradually add limited amounts of white starches like potatoes and white rice. You'll also be able to enjoy a few glasses of wine or beers per week.

The interesting thing about the Fat Smash Diet is that it allows you to plan for mistakes. None of us are perfect, so how can we expect ourselves to follow a diet plan perfectly every day for the rest of our lives? We can't. But if you fail to plan for slip-ups, you are likely to beat yourself up and get off track for longer periods of time and continue on a path of yo-yo dieting.

Dr. Smith says that minor mistakes can be fixed by going back to phase one for about a week and then returning to the stage where you left off. Allowing for compromise sets you up for success.

Exercise is the other key to losing weight fast and keeping it off for good. Find one or more activities that suit your personality or interests and stick with it. Burning calories makes you feel great and work hand-in-hand with proper nutrition to create painless weight loss without a magic pill.

Tips for Success on the Fat Smash Diet

· Don't overeat.

· Don't stop eating fruits and vegetables, no matter what stage you are in.

· Don't skip meals.

· Don't skip exercise.

· Don't indulge in fried foods.

I just watch the Celebrity fit club and several of the people lost 8-11 ln. in a week on this diet. It was created by Dr. Ian Smith from the show. Has any out there tried this and had similiar results? Was it hard? I don't know if you have to eat all fruits and veg. all raw for 9 days or can you cook them?

I don't know what food are allowed on this diet but I'd be willing to try it as long as I didn't get sick.

The results you see on Celebrity Fit Club are for a 2-week time period. Even so, they are getting great results. I can honestly say it can work for some people. My husband did the full 9 day detox and lost 12 lbs. He did fine. I, on the other hand, am a food addcit and i can't function without carbs. I tried one day of it and didn't make it without getting sick.

You can eat several other things though, including oatmeal, brown rice, plain yogurt and egg whites.

You can eat fresh fruits and vegetables, brown rice, egg whites, oatmeal and plain yougurt for the first 9 days. After that you can start adding back your lean meats like chicken and turkey breast. By the end of the 4 stages you can gradually add back all the foods you normally eat.

I went out to dinner during phase 1 of the fat smash diet and I'm not sure if I have to start the detox over from the beginning or add another day on to the 9 day detox, does anyone know what I am supposed to do?

Can anyone tell me if I can use Uncle Bens Long Grain&Wild Rice?

The book only indicates brown or dirty rice. What day are you on and what cycle and how are you fairing? I am day 3, cycle 1 and I have lost 2.5lbs. and that is not water weight because I was already exercising and eating right. Pretty good results.

I did the Fat Smash diet for 3 months and I went from a size 16 to size 12. I have been eating sensibly ever since and now I am a size 10. It was really tough at first but I stuck with it when I started seeing results. I have just purchased extreme fat smash so that I can lose my last 30 pounds. I look forward to the end results!

This is to Lorraine Rice... U can cook the veggies, but steaming is preferred. Im doing the diet right now with my very fit boyfriend, but hes here for support. LOL. He told me just this morning that he was surprised by the food. He said, "I thought when u said healthy food, i thought we had to eat nothin but veggies and fruits." Although it does consist, for the first 9 days, of only the fruits and veggies, you can also fix things with tofu, which to me is just like eating chicken. He nor n e one else in my family have eaten tofu, im about to show them that its realllly good. It absorbs whatever u flavor it with... Try it its great! GOOD LUCK!!!

I did the program on 12/10/07 and by the end of the 90 days I had lost an amazing 49 lbs. It really works so if your serious about losing the weight and keeping it off this is the program for you. I gained about 3 pounds and not fault of the program. I got comfortable with my weight. So I started Phase I about 2 days ago. So for everyone doing the program and wanting to try to program. I say "Happy Fat Smashing".

You definitely can cook all the foods- I started this diet on 11/29, right after Thanksgiving. I weighed myself last night (day 4) and I'm already 3 pounds lighter :)

For the person who said they are dizzy, you have to remember to eat all the stuff listed- I'm not a fan of oatmeal but I've been eating it for breakfast and I'm not a huge fan of brown rice, but I just had some with my lunch of steamed veggies in a clear broth.

The cool thing is I'm learning to make all sorts of recipes I normally wouldn't, like miso soup and edamame, vegetarian chili (normally I just bought whatever was in a can), grilled vegetables with different spices such as curry or garlic :)

It's day five and I admit the first 2-3 days I was a bit cranky, but I notice I'm sleeping better and I'm not as hungry- I haven't been doing 5 days a week of cardio, more like 3 days, but I guess it's better than nothing :) I'm definitely seeing this all the way through!

Hello,
Tracy my name is Jeanine and I bought the book months ago and never started the diet!!! I've been on so many diets and yo-yoed for so long that I can't get motivated. I tried to get one of my family members that is alot heavier to do it with me but she never even purchased the book. I'm tired all the time and I never feel good and I know that it is because of the weight!! I have to get will power that's all. Pray for me!!!

This diet is genius. It is the only thing that has EVER worked for me. I love sweets, so I thought it would be pretty hard. And sometimes it was, of course. But you can have up to two little snacks per day as well from the list, and that really helped me out too (I did the EXTREME version of the fat smash). I do not lose weight easily at all, and I lost 12 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks, not to mention I feel so much better eating good, whole foods. I have acid reflux and barely ever have a problem with that since I have been on the diet. I am convinced if it works for me, it can be ANYONE!

I am new to the fat smash diet but I am hopeful. I am really putting in effort to not cheat myself. To the woman that brought the book but could not get the family member to try it with them, you and I were in the same boat I felt like I needed a partner someone to go through it with me. But on jan 1 i started detox without my friend and tomorrow i will be done with my 9th day she said that she will go to the gym with me but that she was not going to do that detox. I feel good. Good luck and go for it even if its on your own they will come along

I started the Fat Smash Diet on January 5, 2009. After 9 days of the detox phase, I lost 10lbs!!! Egg white omelettes are my favorite, you can have the egg whites with mushrooms, bellpepper, onion, and tomatos and it tastes great!! When I started the diet, I weighed in at 182 lbs, as of today, I weigh 156 lbs and still losing. I went through all 3 phases until I hit a plateau at 162lbs at the end of Phase 3. I simply went back to Phase 1 to start the diet all over again since my goal weight is 140lbs. This diet really works and I'm so happy with the results!!!

This Diet REALLY works. I was sceptical because I've done other diets but I stuck to this one. It was hard at first but then you actually get use to the food changes and after a month or so you notice yourself turning down potato chips and fried food. During the detox week I lost 14 pds and after 2 months of sticking with the diet a total of 50pds. Unfortunately I gained a few back but starting over at phase one. Try it. Good Luck!

I have been on the FSD for 3 days and have already lost 5lbs! I am a busy single mom so I had to find somehting quick to eat. Minute Rice make ready to serve containers of brown rice. They come two to a package for less than 2 bucks and on take 60 secs. in the microwave. Also they sell steamed veggies in the frozen section. Look for the one who list the ingredients as only being that particular vegetable (no butter or preservatives). They sell liquid egg whites and pre-diced veggies for a quick omlet too. Good luck!
